Give
Your Heart to Kids Backpack Drive to Benefit Thousands of Abused
Children in San Diego
The
Child Abuse Prevention Foundation asks Local Businesses and Organizations
to Collect Backpacks for the 2006-2007 School Year
SAN
DIEGO, CA, July 19, 2006 – The Child Abuse Prevention
Foundation (CAPF) is partnering with 10,000
RV and KFMB TV News 8 for the fifth annual Give
Your Heart to Kids Backpack Drive to benefit thousands of abused and at-risk children
returning to school this fall. CAPF welcomes local businesses, community organizations
and individuals to join the campaign to collect backpacks for the 2006-2007
school year. The new backpacks can be dropped off between 6:00
a.m. and 6:00 p.m .at
the LIVE Drive event on Wednesday, August 16th at 10,000
RV located at 3803
Convoy Street, just off the 163 freeway.
The
collected backpacks and school supplies will be distributed to
over 20 local agencies supporting San Diego’s abused, neglected,
abandoned and at-risk children of all ages. Many of the 7,000
children in foster care will
return to
school this year without the tools and supplies necessary to succeed in school.
Equipping them with the proper backpacks, not only gives them something to
carry books in, but for many abused children, it allows them to call something
their
own for the very first time. In 2005, the backpack drive, thanks to the help
of many local corporations, civic organizations and individuals collected
over 5,000 backpacks and supplies. Anyone interested in participating
can contact
Caitlin Crabtree at (858) 278-4400 ext. 21, or by email at caitlin@capfsd.org.
