“ North County’s
First Transitional Program
Where
Young Women Can Step Up Before They Step Out”
Mary’s House Mission
Mary’s House Transitional Living Program empowers, uplifts
and supports young women as they move towards their goals, while
building a foundation for success, and strengthening their knowledge
of themselves through guidance, educational opportunities, community
service and stability in a cooperative, unified living environment.
About the Program
Mary’s House, San Diego North County’s first transitional
living program provides a home and services to six young women
between the ages of 18 and 21. Each of these young women come to
the program
through various stages of personal, professional and academic growth
as they transition from the foster care system into independent
futures as young adults. The home is named in honor of Mary Goodall,
a longtime
San Diego child advocate.
Mary’s House offers a three-stage graduated program for
its participants, including a one-month probationary period.
The complete
transitional living program is offered in 18 months, with
the goal of each participant demonstrating their ability to
live independently
with a strong support structure and short-term and long-term
goals for success.
About the Partners
Mary’s House is a demonstration of the community coming together
to create an environment that aims to support and guide each young
woman to leading a life of independence by offering a comprehensive
program that meets the needs of young adults. Opened since December
of 2003, the program offers a six-bedroom home in Escondido on approximately
8 acres, located off of Valley Parkway. The home and property are
owned by the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation (CAPF) and through
a collaborative process, the YMCA Youth & Family Services is
contracted to provide the transitional living services to young women
in San Diego County. The project was made possible by the incredible
work of HomeAid San Diego, dedicated to building hope and homes for
San Diego’s temporarily homeless men, women, and children.
HomeAid, along with builder captain, William Lyon Homes, led the
renovation of the property and truly created a “home” environment
for each of the young women in the program.
